DIRTRIDERS, INC. is a private Off-Road motorcycle club that has been in existence since the 1960’s. The original Club and club members were known as the NOMADS because they rode Montgomery Ward Nomad motorcycles. The Club is located a few miles Northeast of Decatur Illinois. The Club covers approximately 60 acres which is leased from Mr. Eugene Timmerman, who inherited it from his father and who was the original land owner.
In order to become a member one must pay a membership fee and agree to work a minimum of six hours at Club functions and attend four meetings each membership year. DIRTRIDERS, INC. is a family oriented club and a Common/Family membership includes all immediate members of a family, (see the Club’s By-Laws for the definition of a “family”). Any family member may contribute to completing the requirements of membership.
Membership is open to those who ride off-road motorcycles and are involved in motorcycle riding or the motorcycle related industry. Membership is a privilege and can be lost by inappropriate behavior or failure to adhere to the established rules.
Starting in the spring and continuing through the fall there is a “Fun Ride” held on every third Sunday of the month. This is a non-competitive ride on a Hare Scramble type course. This is a good chance to try out your Hare Scrambles skills and it gives younger riders an opportunity to ride in “traffic” without riding in a “race”. The highlight of the year is the annual “Charity Race” held each November to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Macon County. John Gepford and Tom Lange have been instrumental in organizing this event for several years and it has continued to be favorite event for many riders in the area.
The club also hosts at least one District 17 Hare Scrambles race each year. This race was conducted at the Club grounds for many years, but for the past few years the race has been held on a larger property near Oakford, Illinois.
The club has a website: http://www.dirt-rider.org and a general email address email@example.com.
